AydrA · Hyperlogical Non-Sense

Hyperlogical Non-Sense è il secondo full-length di AydrA, uscito nel 2004. La sua genesi parte dal MEI di Faenza del 2002: il concerto previsto salta, ma la band lascia un promo di quattro brani allo stand della Rising Works. Frank Andiver — batterista fondatore dei Labyrinth, già fan di Icon of Sin — si propone di produrlo. La trattativa si chiude in pochi giorni.

Il disco è registrato agli Zenith Studios di Lucca tra fine 2003 e inizio 2004. Andiver porta una qualità produttiva nuova: chitarre stratificate, batteria tridimensionale, basso in evidenza. Undici brani, circa 38 minuti — il punto più alto raggiunto dalla band sul piano tecnico. Esce per Xtreme Rising, la divisione metal estremo della Rising Works, con distribuzione Self in Italia ed Europa: la prima distribuzione strutturata su due continenti.

La formazione è Mauro Pacetti (voce), Francesco Olivi (chitarra solista), Alessandro Marcelli (chitarra ritmica), Andrea Mastromarco (basso) e Nicola Raffaeli (batteria). Le nuove influenze — Meshuggah e Gorguts — spingono verso tempi irregolari e dissonanze.

Il concept è filosofico, non narrativo: il «nonsenso iperlogico» è lo stato in cui la ragione, spinta a un livello di analisi estremo, finisce per perdere il contatto con il reale. I testi attraversano dogmatismi religiosi e ideologici, sdoppiamenti dell'identità, paranoie ossessive. La copertina è tratta da un'opera di Loretta Militano, pittrice e scultrice di Rimini — una figura rannicchiata, volto coperto dalle mani — sormontata da una nuova evoluzione del logo disegnata da Mauro.

Hyperlogical Non-Sense is AydrA's second full-length, released in 2004. Its genesis goes back to the 2002 MEI festival in Faenza: the planned show fell through, but the band left a four-track promo at the Rising Works stand. Frank Andiver — founding drummer of Labyrinth, already an Icon of Sin fan — offered to produce it. The deal closed within days.

The album was recorded at the Zenith Studios in Lucca between late 2003 and early 2004. Andiver brought a new production quality: layered guitars, three-dimensional drums, bass up in the mix. Eleven tracks, around 38 minutes — the highest technical point the band reached. Released on Xtreme Rising, the extreme-metal division of Rising Works, with Self distribution in Italy and Europe: their first structured distribution across two continents.

The line-up is Mauro Pacetti (vocals), Francesco Olivi (lead guitar), Alessandro Marcelli (rhythm guitar), Andrea Mastromarco (bass) and Nicola Raffaeli (drums). New influences — Meshuggah and Gorguts — push toward odd time signatures and dissonance.

The concept is philosophical, not narrative: "hyperlogical non-sense" is the state in which reason, pushed to an extreme level of analysis, ends up losing touch with the real. The lyrics move through religious and ideological dogmatism, identity splitting, obsessive paranoia. The cover is drawn from a work by Loretta Militano, a painter and sculptor from Rimini — a crouched figure, face covered by the hands — topped by a new evolution of the logo designed by Mauro.

Gli AydrA, pionieri del technical death metal italiano, nascono nel 1985 evolvendo dal thrash verso sonorità sempre più complesse e feroci. Dopo gli acclamati Icon of Sin e Hyperlogical Non-sense, la band torna nel 2024 con Leave to Nowhere, un concept potente e attuale che segna il ritorno definitivo della loro furia tecnica.

Le radici della band affondano a Falconara (AN) nel 1985, sotto il moniker Hydra: tre cassette in territorio power/thrash metal. Nel 1991, con l'ingresso di Mauro Pacetti (basso/voce) e Francesco Olivi (chitarra), la band sposta il proprio sound verso il thrash/death tecnico. Nel 1993 esce Demo 4, primo lavoro firmato AydrA; seguirà Penance Stare (1994).

Nel 1996 esce il mini-CD Psycho Pain Control (Dawn of Sadness), registrato da David Lenci al Sound Machine. Nel 1999 arriva il primo full-length Icon of Sin (Sound Machine Recordings), album di culto del tech-death italiano. Nel 2004, prodotto da Frank Andiver per Rising Works / Extreme Rising, esce Hyperlogical Non-sense, accolto con entusiasmo dalla stampa specializzata — con Andrea Mastromarco al basso.

Dopo una pausa e una reunion nel 2013, la band riprende l'attività e, dopo una lunga gestazione, nel 2024 pubblica per Rude Awakening il concept Leave to Nowhere, media recensioni 8,51/10 e diversi premi come miglior album metal dell'anno. Nel 2026 Rude Awakening pubblica la ristampa CD definitiva di Icon of Sin.

The band's roots go back to Falconara (Italy) in 1985, as Hydra: three power/thrash cassettes. In 1991, with Mauro Pacetti (bass/vocals) and Francesco Olivi (guitar), the band shifted toward technical thrash/death. In 1993 they released Demo 4, the first work as AydrA; Penance Stare followed in 1994.

In 1996 the mini-CD Psycho Pain Control (Dawn of Sadness) was tracked by David Lenci at Sound Machine. In 1999 came the first full-length Icon of Sin (Sound Machine Recordings), a cult record of Italian tech-death. In 2004, produced by Frank Andiver for Rising Works / Extreme Rising, Hyperlogical Non-sense was released to enthusiastic specialist press — with Andrea Mastromarco on bass.

After a hiatus and a 2013 reunion, the band resumed activity and, following a long gestation, in 2024 released the concept album Leave to Nowhere on Rude Awakening, with an 8.51/10 review average and several Best Metal Album honours. In 2026 Rude Awakening releases the definitive CD reissue of Icon of Sin.
