Psycho Pain Control è il mini-CD d'esordio di AydrA, pubblicato nel 1996 da Dawn of Sadness (D.O.S. CD03). Registrato al Sound Machine Recording di David Lenci tra il 1994 e il 1995, raccoglie cinque brani di thrash/death — la title-track è composta nel 1994. È il primo vero documento sonoro della band, e uno dei primi tre album mai prodotti da Lenci.
Psycho Pain Control is AydrA's debut mini-CD, released in 1996 on Dawn of Sadness (D.O.S. CD03). Recorded at David Lenci's Sound Machine Recording between 1994 and 1995, it gathers five thrash/death tracks — the title track was written in 1994. It is the band's first real recorded statement, and one of the first three albums Lenci ever produced.

L'album
Psycho Pain Control è il mini-CD d'esordio di AydrA (1996), uscito per Dawn of Sadness di Alex De Socchieri come D.O.S. CD03 — dopo che una prima trattativa con Cryptic Soul Productions era naufragata (la stessa disavventura vissuta da Natron e Undertakers, da cui nacque una rete di amicizie tra band).
Il disco è registrato al Sound Machine Recording di David Lenci, il fonico incontrato dal vivo a Senigallia il 16 luglio 1994: colpito dalla band, propose di registrare un album. Psycho Pain Control è così uno dei primi tre album mai prodotti da Lenci, accanto a Three Second Kiss e One Dimensional Man (Pier Paolo Capovilla). La title-track era già composta nel 1994.
La line-up di registrazione vede Giovanni Rovatti (chitarra e voce, ultimo superstite della formazione Hydra), Francesco Olivi (chitarra), Mauro Pacetti (basso, voce, screams & growls) e Nicola Raffaeli alla batteria, al suo esordio in AydrA. Marcello Lammoglia registra una parte di chitarra clean — premonizione del cambio di formazione: entrerà ufficialmente subito dopo, al posto di Giovanni.
L'artwork nasce da due opere pittoriche originali di Lorenzo Luzi — non illustrazioni concepite per il disco, ma quadri di matrice metafisica scelti come front e back. Dalla title-track e dalla versione primordiale di «Icon of Sin» (sulla compilation Scream From Italy III, 1998) parte la rotta verso il primo full-length.

Psycho Pain Control is AydrA's debut mini-CD (1996), released on Alex De Socchieri's Dawn of Sadness as D.O.S. CD03 — after an earlier deal with Cryptic Soul Productions fell through (the same setback lived through by Natron and Undertakers, which turned into a network of friendships between bands).
The record was tracked at David Lenci's Sound Machine Recording, the engineer the band met live in Senigallia on 16 July 1994: struck by the show, he offered to record an album. Psycho Pain Control is thus one of the first three albums Lenci ever produced, alongside Three Second Kiss and One Dimensional Man (Pier Paolo Capovilla). The title track had already been written in 1994.
The recording line-up features Giovanni Rovatti (guitar and vocals, the last surviving member of the Hydra line-up), Francesco Olivi (guitar), Mauro Pacetti (bass, vocals, screams & growls) and Nicola Raffaeli on drums, his AydrA debut. Marcello Lammoglia recorded a clean guitar part — foreshadowing the line-up change: he joined officially right after, replacing Giovanni.
The artwork comes from two original paintings by Lorenzo Luzi — not illustrations made for the record, but metaphysical paintings chosen as front and back. The title track and the early version of «Icon of Sin» (on the Scream From Italy III compilation, 1998) set the course toward the first full-length.

Gli AydrA, pionieri del technical death metal italiano, nascono nel 1985 evolvendo dal thrash verso sonorità sempre più complesse e feroci. Dopo gli acclamati Icon of Sin e Hyperlogical Non-sense, la band torna nel 2024 con Leave to Nowhere, un concept potente e attuale che segna il ritorno definitivo della loro furia tecnica.

Le radici della band affondano a Falconara (AN) nel 1985, sotto il moniker Hydra: tre cassette in territorio power/thrash metal. Nel 1991, con l'ingresso di Mauro Pacetti (basso/voce) e Francesco Olivi (chitarra), la band sposta il proprio sound verso il thrash/death tecnico ispirato da Death, Cynic, Atheist, Megadeth e Annihilator. Nel 1993 esce Demo 4, primo lavoro firmato AydrA; seguirà Penance Stare (1994).

The band's roots go back to Falconara (Italy) in 1985, under the name Hydra: three power/thrash cassettes. In 1991, with the arrival of Mauro Pacetti (bass/vocals) and Francesco Olivi (guitar), the band shifted toward a technical thrash/death direction inspired by Death, Cynic, Atheist, Megadeth and Annihilator. In 1993 they released Demo 4, the first work as AydrA; Penance Stare followed in 1994.
The talent scout was David Lenci, sound engineer known for his work with Uzeda, 3 Second Kiss and One Dimensional Man, owner of Sound Machine Recording. The studio tracked Psycho Pain Control between 1994 and 1995; the release came in 1996 on Dawn of Sadness (Alex De Socchieri), the label behind the Scream from Italy compilations (AydrA on vol. 2 and 3). Nicola Raffaeli joined on drums; with the addition of Marcello Lammoglia the band stepped up its live activity.
In 1999 Icon of Sin (Sound Machine Recordings) became a cult record of Italian tech-death. In 2004 came Hyperlogical Non-sense (Frank Andiver, Rising Works / Extreme Rising). After a 2013 reunion and a long gestation, in 2024 Rude Awakening released the concept album Leave to Nowhere, 8.51/10 review average. In 2026 Rude Awakening releases the definitive CD reissue of Icon of Sin.
